Pilotwings 64 is a flight game for the Nintendo 64 and a follow-up to the Super NES original. You choose from a set of aircraft and flying devices, including a hang glider, a rocket belt and a gyrocopter, then fly missions over large 3D island environments. Tasks involve passing through rings, hitting targets, landing precisely and reaching checkpoints within a time limit, with scores awarded for accuracy and technique. Passing grades open up further stages and craft. Alongside the scored missions there are free-flight modes that let you explore the terrain at your own pace and find landmarks hidden in the landscape. The analogue stick handles pitch, roll and yaw, and the game leans on smooth, open airspace rather than tight courses or combat.
