A Super Nintendo side-scrolling platformer starring Pitfall Harry Jr., who heads into the Central American jungle after his father is taken captive. You work through rainforest, waterfalls, mines, caves and Mayan temple ruins, swinging from vines and ropes, leaping pits and dodging spikes while fighting off scorpions, bats, frogs, jaguars and armed warriors with a whip and thrown stones. Hidden treasure and power-ups reward searching side paths and lower routes instead of taking the direct way through. The game builds on the Atari 2600 original, retaining the vine swinging and jungle hazards while adding large multi-screen stages, hand-painted backgrounds and detailed character animation. Careful timing on jumps and swings is central to play, and losing your footing often means dropping into a lower section of the level.
