Prince of Persia on Sega CD is a side-scrolling action platformer in which you guide a prince through the dungeons and upper floors of a palace. The route is filled with spike pits, chopping blades, crumbling tiles and gates linked to pressure plates, and guards must be beaten in sword duels of advancing, parrying and thrusting. Control is animation-led and weighty, so running jumps and ledge grabs need careful setup rather than quick reflexes. Potions scattered through the levels restore or extend health, and a time limit runs across the whole quest. Each stage is as much a puzzle as an obstacle course, often sending you back through rooms after activating a switch. The CD format allows for recorded music and audio in place of chip-generated sound.
