Quake on the Sega Saturn is a conversion of id Software's first-person shooter, rebuilt to run on Sega's hardware. You move through dark medieval fortresses and industrial installations, finding keys, flipping switches and fighting knights, ogres, zombies and other creatures. Weapons include the shotgun, nailgun, grenade and rocket launchers and the lightning gun, with health, armour and ammunition tucked into side rooms and secret areas. Movement is free in all directions, with vertical aiming and jumping across gaps and water, and the visual style relies on murky textures, torchlight and heavy architecture. The Saturn release concentrates on the single-player campaign and reworks the level layouts and rendering for the console rather than reproducing the PC version exactly.
