Rastan is a side-scrolling hack-and-slash action game originally released in arcades by Taito and brought to the Sega Master System. You play a barbarian warrior who moves right through stage after stage of ruins, caverns, forests and castles, swinging a sword at skeletons, harpies, lizard creatures and other fantasy enemies. Weapon and item pickups appear along the way, letting you swap your sword for other arms, gain temporary protection, or restore health, while your energy bar drains from hits and hazards such as spikes and fire. Each stage builds toward a larger boss creature that must be defeated to continue. Play is built on jumping, timing sword swings and managing your health across a level rather than exploration.
