The Dreamcast version of Rayman 2: The Great Escape is a 3D platformer built around exploration and precise jumping. Rayman runs, swims, climbs ledges, hangs from grappling points and glides using his helicopter hair, and he attacks by throwing a charged energy sphere at enemies and switches. Levels are themed around swamps, caves, temples and industrial areas, filled with yellow Lums to collect and caged Teensies to free; gathering Lums is needed to unlock progress into later sections. Variety comes from chase sequences, water stages and segments where you ride creatures or use mounted weapons. Pirates form the main enemy force, and larger set-piece boss fights break up the platforming. The Dreamcast release presents the game with higher-resolution visuals than earlier console versions.
