Serious Sam Advance brings the series' first-person shooting to the Game Boy Advance. You play as Sam Stone, moving through corridors and open areas while enemies rush you in groups, and the emphasis stays on constant movement and shooting rather than careful cover. The handheld presentation uses scaled sprite enemies and a heads-up display showing health, armour and ammunition, with weapons picked up as you progress and ammo and health scattered through the levels. Environments draw on the ancient, ruined settings the series is known for, and levels are punctuated by larger enemies that take sustained fire to bring down. Controls are mapped to the GBA's limited buttons, with strafing and turning handled by the shoulder buttons. Secrets are tucked away in side passages for players who search the maps.
