Spyro 2: Season of Flame is a handheld Spyro adventure presented from an isometric viewpoint rather than in full 3D. You control Spyro the dragon, breathing fire, charging into enemies and gliding across gaps as you explore themed worlds and hub areas. The story involves the theft of the fireflies that keep the dragons' fire breath working, so much of the game is spent recovering them along with the gems scattered through each level. Elemental breath abilities let you deal with obstacles and enemies that ordinary fire cannot handle. Between the main platforming stages there are separate minigames and challenge sections controlled by other characters, breaking up the exploration. Progress is gated by collecting enough fireflies and gems to open the way to later areas.
