Super Star Wars is a side-scrolling action platformer for the Super Nintendo based on the original Star Wars film. You begin as Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, jumping across desert terrain and caves while fighting creatures, droids and Imperial forces with a blaster that can be upgraded through pickups, later gaining a lightsaber for close combat. Additional playable characters become available as the story progresses, each handling slightly differently. Levels follow the film's major locations, ending with boss encounters against large enemies. The game breaks up the platforming with vehicle sequences presented using scaling effects, including piloting the landspeeder and an assault on the Death Star. Enemies respawn frequently and health is limited, so progress relies on learning stage layouts and managing pickups carefully.
