Tempo is a side-scrolling platformer for the Sega 32X built around a music theme. You control Tempo, a small insect character, running and jumping through brightly coloured stages populated by musical motifs and cartoon-styled enemies. Movement combines standard platforming with hovering and aerial manoeuvres, and stages are laid out to encourage exploring vertical space as well as moving left to right. Boss encounters cap off areas, and the presentation leans heavily on the 32X hardware's expanded colour palette and scaling effects. The soundtrack is central to the game's identity, with the visual design and level themes tied to instruments and performance.
