Tetris Attack on the Super Nintendo is a puzzle game built around swapping rather than dropping. Blocks rise steadily from the bottom of the playfield and you move a two-tile cursor to swap adjacent panels horizontally, matching three or more of the same colour to clear them. Well-timed swaps during a clear create chains and combos, which send garbage blocks to an opponent and buy you breathing room. The game uses Yoshi and other characters from Yoshi's Island as its cast and setting. Modes include a single-player run of matches against a series of opponents, a timed score attack, a puzzle mode with fixed board layouts to solve in a set number of moves, and a two-player versus mode played side by side on one screen.
