The Mask brings the film's green-faced alter ego to the Super Nintendo as a side-scrolling action platformer. You control the Mask himself, running and jumping through stages while dealing with thugs and other hazards using cartoon-style attacks and transformations that stretch, squash and reshape the character in ways ordinary sprites cannot manage. The presentation leans on the movie's exaggerated slapstick, with bright colours and animation gags built into the moves and hit reactions. Progress is a matter of learning enemy patterns, timing jumps across the level layouts and reaching the end of each area, with tougher encounters closing out the stages. Controls follow the standard SNES platformer template, so most of the learning curve comes from working out which attacks suit which situations.
