The Pagemaster is a side-scrolling platform game for the Super Nintendo based on the animated film. You play as a boy who becomes trapped inside a library where books come to life, and you travel through worlds themed around fantasy, adventure and horror stories. Play consists of running, climbing and jumping across multi-tiered stages while avoiding hazards and enemies drawn from the settings. You collect items scattered through the levels and use a limited attack to deal with creatures blocking your path, with stage layouts that encourage exploring upper and lower routes. Cutscene panels between areas advance the story as you make your way from one book world to the next in search of a way home.
