Track and Field on the NES is an athletics game built around a series of Olympic-style events. You compete in disciplines such as sprinting, hurdles, long jump and javelin, with each one asking you to build up speed by rapidly alternating button presses and then time a second press for your jump angle or throw release. Events have qualifying marks you must beat to advance, so a poor run ends the session rather than simply costing you a placement. The controls are deliberately simple, but success depends on rhythm and precise timing rather than complex inputs. Multiple players can take turns competing for the best distances and times, and the game tracks records for each event, making it well suited to sitting down with friends.
