Wade Hixton's Counter Punch is a boxing game for the Game Boy Advance. You play Wade Hixton, who ends up fighting his way through a series of opponents in a small Texas town. Bouts are viewed from behind your fighter and play in the style of pattern-based boxing: you watch each opponent's tells, dodge and block their attacks, then counter during the openings that follow. Every rival has their own quirks, appearance and attack routines to learn, so progress comes from memorising and reacting rather than button mashing. Between fights you move around the town on an overworld map, talk to characters and pick up the next match through short story sequences. Presentation uses cartoon-styled sprites and comic dialogue.
