Willow is an action role-playing game for the NES based on the fantasy film of the same name. You control Willow Ufgood from an overhead perspective, exploring towns, forests, caves and castles while fighting enemies in real time with a sword. Defeating enemies earns experience, and levelling up increases your statistics, while shops and hidden areas provide better swords, shields and items. Magic plays a part as well, with spells learned over the course of the adventure and used against tougher foes. Progress is gated by finding the right equipment or item to reach new regions, and the story follows the film's broad outline of protecting an infant from a hostile queen. The game uses password or battery progress saving and features cutscene panels between major story events.
