Wizards and Warriors is a side-scrolling action platformer for the NES in which you play as the knight Kuros. Armed with a sword, you fight your way through forests, caverns and castle interiors filled with knights, beasts and flying enemies. Levels are built vertically as well as horizontally, with trees and ledges to climb and branching routes hiding treasure chests. Chests contain gems, keys, weapons and magic items such as potions and spells that grant temporary powers, and gems can be handed over to gatekeepers to open the way onward. Locked doors require the right keys, encouraging you to search each stage rather than run straight through. Each area closes with a boss fight before Kuros can continue toward the castle at the heart of the game.
