Yoshi is a falling-block puzzle game for the NES. Four columns of Mario enemies drop toward the bottom of the screen, where Mario holds two trays that you swap left and right to rearrange the pieces. Matching two of the same enemy clears them. Catching the top and bottom halves of an egg shell together hatches a Yoshi, and any pieces sandwiched between the two shell halves are cleared at once for a larger score. The pace increases the longer you last, and the round ends if a column stacks to the top. Difficulty settings let you begin with more clutter already on the field, and the game supports a two-player side-by-side match as well as solo high-score play.
