Daikatana is a first-person shooter released on the Nintendo 64 alongside its PC counterpart. The story follows Hiro Miyamoto, who wields a time-travelling sword and pursues an enemy across separate eras, so the campaign moves between distinct settings and swaps out the weapon set as you go rather than sticking with one arsenal throughout. Two companion characters accompany Hiro through much of the game and can be given basic orders; keeping them alive matters to your progress. Level design mixes corridor combat, switch hunting and outdoor areas, and defeated enemies contribute to upgrades that improve attributes such as health, speed and weapon handling. The N64 version was rebuilt for the console, with its own level layouts, multiplayer support for local play, and controls mapped to the N64 pad.
