Earthworm Jim 3D moves the character into a three-dimensional platformer. Jim is knocked unconscious, and the levels take place inside his own mind, giving each world a surreal theme built around his memories and anxieties. You explore hub-connected areas from a behind-the-back camera, running, jumping, whipping enemies and objects with Jim's head, and using his blaster on foes. Progress depends on gathering collectibles scattered through the levels, which unlock access to further areas, so exploration and platforming challenges take priority over straight-line combat. The game keeps the series' cartoon presentation and comic sound work, with exaggerated animation and joke-driven environments. Expect the usual 3D-era conventions of the period, including camera control, item hunting and boss encounters at the end of major areas.
