Tetrisphere takes the falling-block idea and wraps it around a rotating sphere. Layers of interlocking blocks cover the surface, and you slide a piece across the sphere and drop it to trigger matches with the blocks underneath. Clearing matched groups digs through the layers, and the objective in the main mode is to expose enough of the core beneath. Chain reactions and stored special blocks let you blow away large sections at once, which becomes important as time limits and thicker layers tighten the pressure. Because the playfield curves away from you, positioning involves spinning the sphere to see what lies on the other side. The Nintendo 64 release includes additional modes and multiplayer, and it is presented with an electronic soundtrack and metallic robot-themed pieces.
