Bomberman Tournament combines a single-player adventure with the series' familiar battle mode. In the adventure you explore an overworld, moving between areas, entering dungeons and using bombs both as weapons and as tools to break blocks and trigger switches. Puzzles are built around bomb placement and timing, and bosses close out dungeons with attack patterns you need to learn. Along the way you collect Charaboms, creature companions that grant abilities and can be raised and swapped depending on what a given area demands. The battle mode uses the classic rules: players share an enclosed grid, blow open soft blocks for power-ups that increase blast range and bomb count, and try to trap each other in explosions. Multiplayer battles are played by linking Game Boy Advance systems together with cables.
