Dark Arena is a first-person shooter for the Game Boy Advance. You move through enclosed corridors and rooms from a first-person viewpoint, fighting creatures and hunting for the keys and switches that open the way forward. Progress is built around finding your route through maze-like level layouts while managing ammunition and health pickups scattered through the environments, in the mould of early PC corridor shooters. Weapons are collected as you advance, giving you heavier options for the tougher enemies later on. The presentation uses texture-mapped walls and sprite-based enemies to produce a 3D-style view on the handheld's hardware, with the small screen showing a status readout beneath the action. Controls handle movement and turning on the D-pad with firing on the face buttons.
