Doom on Game Boy Advance is a handheld conversion of id Software's first-person shooter. You play as a lone marine fighting through military installations and hellish environments, working through levels that hide keycards, switches and secret rooms rather than following a linear path. The arsenal runs from a pistol and shotgun up to the chaingun, rocket launcher, plasma rifle and BFG, with the chainsaw for close quarters. Enemies include imps, zombie soldiers, cacodemons and larger bosses, all rendered as sprites in the engine's pseudo-3D world. Levels are viewed from the first person with an automap available for navigation, and difficulty settings adjust enemy numbers and aggression. The GBA version adapts the controls to the handheld's button layout and includes music and sound effects based on the original.
