Earthworm Jim on Game Boy Advance is a handheld version of the run-and-gun platformer starring a worm in a powered space suit. You run, jump and shoot your way through cartoon-styled stages, using Jim's plasma blaster on enemies and swinging his head like a whip to cross gaps, grab hooks and pull switches. Stages vary in setting and in what they ask of you, mixing standard platforming with sections that change the format, such as vehicle and chase segments and encounters with recurring rivals. Health and ammunition pickups are scattered through levels, and each area closes with a boss fight against an oversized opponent. The presentation keeps the original's animated sprites and slapstick humour, with the level layouts adapted to the smaller screen and the GBA's button set.
