Mega Man Battle Network 4 Red Sun pairs a school-life adventure with grid-based combat on Game Boy Advance. As Lan Hikari, you explore towns and networks, then jack in and control MegaMan.EXE in battle. Combat is real time on a divided grid: you choose Battle Chips from a randomised hand, then move, dodge and fire until the chips are spent and the next selection window opens. The plot centres on net battling tournaments and is structured for multiple playthroughs, with extra encounters and chips appearing in later runs. Double Soul lets MegaMan borrow the abilities of friendly Navis by giving up a matching chip, while Dark Chips offer heavy damage at a cost. Red Sun and Blue Moon differ in their rosters of opposing Navis and available chips, and the two versions can be linked for trading and versus play.
