Apprentice of the Force is a side-scrolling action platformer for Game Boy Advance that follows the story of the original Star Wars trilogy from Luke Skywalker's perspective. You run, jump and climb through stages set at locations from the films, using a blaster in early sections and a lightsaber later on, with Force abilities unlocking as Luke's training progresses. Deflecting blaster bolts back at stormtroopers is a core combat mechanic, and Force powers are used both in fights and to move objects blocking your path. The levels are broken up by other styles of play, including vehicle and flight sequences based on major battles from the films. Still images and text carry the story between stages. Presentation is sprite-based, with digitized sound effects and arrangements of the film music.
