Wario Land 4 is a platform game for the Game Boy Advance in which Wario explores a pyramid divided into themed passages, each containing several levels and a boss. Levels are built around a two-part structure: you travel inward to reach a switch, then must retrace your route to the entrance before a timer runs out, with the stage layout and hazards working against you on the way back. Along the route you collect keyzer, jewel pieces and coins, which are needed to open boss doors and buy items. Wario cannot simply die from contact damage; instead he takes on states such as being flattened, set on fire, swollen or turned into a snowball, and each is used to pass particular obstacles. Bosses are fought against a time limit.
