X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse is a side-scrolling beat 'em up for Game Boy Advance. You choose from a small group of X-Men, including Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm and Rogue, each with their own attacks and mutant powers, then fight through stages filled with enemy soldiers and mutant foes. Combat uses punches, kicks, jumping attacks and special moves, with pickups scattered through levels to restore health. Stages end in boss battles against familiar Marvel villains, and the story builds toward a confrontation with Apocalypse. Levels move through varied environments and mix straightforward brawling with occasional platform sections. The game supports single-player play on the handheld and uses sprite-based art drawn from the comics, keeping the pace and structure close to traditional arcade-style beat 'em ups.
