A Game Boy role-playing game set in Kanto, following the same journey as Pokemon Red and Blue with changes drawn from the animated series. Your starter is a Pikachu that walks behind you on the overworld rather than staying in its ball, and its mood changes depending on how you treat it. Over the course of the adventure you can obtain Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle from trainers in the world. You travel from Pallet Town across Kanto, battling the eight gym leaders, disrupting Team Rocket's plans and finishing with the Elite Four and Champion. Team Rocket members from the anime appear as opponents. The game supports colour display on Game Boy Color, and trading and battling via Game Link Cable.
