Ultimate Spider-Man is an open-world action game set in a cel-shaded version of New York City styled after the comics it draws from. You web-swing and wall-crawl freely across the city, taking on story missions as well as side activities such as races, combat challenges and rescues scattered through the streets. The story alternates between two playable characters: Spider-Man, who fights crime and takes on supervillains, and Venom, whose segments are more destructive and built around raw strength and feeding on bystanders. Combat mixes melee strikes with web attacks, and traversal is a large part of the appeal, with momentum-based swinging between buildings. Comic-book style visuals, panel transitions and voiced cutscenes carry the narrative between missions, and villains from the Spider-Man mythos appear as bosses.
