Virtua Quest is an action game for Nintendo GameCube that places the Virtua Fighter cast in a story-driven adventure rather than a traditional versus fighter. You control a young protagonist exploring a digital world, moving through connected areas, fighting groups of enemies in real time and progressing through a plot told with cutscenes. Combat mixes punches, kicks, throws and juggling with role-playing style progression: you gain experience, improve stats and unlock new techniques as you play, with abilities drawn from Virtua Fighter characters who appear over the course of the game. Exploration includes light platforming and puzzle elements between fights. The presentation uses cel-shaded 3D visuals, and the pacing sits closer to an action RPG than to the arcade fighting games the series is named for.
