Zapper for the Nintendo GameCube is an action game in which you control a cricket working through hazard-filled stages. Movement is built around hopping and short bursts of speed, and levels are laid out as obstacle courses of moving platforms, traffic, water, patrolling enemies, and timed gaps that must be crossed in the right rhythm. Along the way you collect eggs and other pickups scattered through each stage, some of them tucked into side paths that require a detour. Levels are grouped into themed worlds, with boss encounters breaking up the standard courses. An electric attack lets you deal with certain enemies rather than only avoiding them. The perspective mixes overhead and side-on sections, and the emphasis throughout is on precise, timing-based platforming.
