Metroid: Other M puts Samus Aran in a third-person action adventure controlled with the Wii Remote held sideways, using the D-pad for movement in 3D space. Holding the remote toward the screen switches to a first-person view for aiming missiles and scanning the environment, which you also use to search rooms for details that advance the story. Combat emphasises dodging at the moment of an attack, followed by charged shots and finishing moves performed at close range. The setting is a large derelict space station divided into themed sectors that you unlock gradually as abilities are authorised. The plot is told through frequent voiced cutscenes and narration from Samus, covering her past with the Galactic Federation and the soldiers aboard the station.
