Outbreak File 2 continues the scenario-based spin-off in which you play as civilians trying to survive the Raccoon City outbreak rather than as trained agents. You select from the same cast of survivors, each with their own starting item, personal ability and inventory space, and tackle a new set of standalone scenarios with their own settings and escape objectives. The fixed-camera survival horror controls return, along with the virus gauge that rises over time and with injury, giving each scenario a built-in time pressure. Cooperation is central: other survivors travel with you, and some obstacles require assistance or shared items. Online multiplayer was supported through the PlayStation 2 network adaptor, while offline play has the AI control your companions. Unlockable characters, items and difficulty settings encourage replaying scenarios along different routes.
