Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is a role-playing game for the Super Nintendo, presented from an isometric viewpoint. A weapon called Exor crashes into Bowser's castle and shatters the Star Road, and Mario sets out to recover the scattered star pieces. Along the way he is joined by a party that includes the cloud-like Mallow, the doll-bodied Geno, Princess Toadstool and Bowser himself. Combat is turn-based, with a timing element: pressing the button at the right moment strengthens attacks or reduces damage taken. Outside of battle you jump, climb and solve platform-style puzzles in the overworld, and explore towns, dungeons and hidden areas. Minigames and side activities are woven throughout, from mine cart rides to a Yoshi racing diversion, alongside equipment, special moves and items to manage.
