Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is a side-scrolling platformer for the Super Nintendo in which you control Yoshi rather than Mario. Baby Mario rides on Yoshi's back, and being hit knocks him loose into a floating bubble; you have a limited countdown to recover him before he is taken away. Yoshi's moves centre on eating enemies with his tongue and turning them into eggs, which are carried behind him and aimed with a moving cursor to hit switches, enemies and hidden items. A flutter jump extends airtime, and ground pounds break through obstacles. Levels also feature transformations that turn Yoshi into vehicles such as a helicopter or submarine. Stages are scored on collectibles gathered, including red coins and flowers, and the visuals use a hand-drawn, crayon-like art style.
