Track and Field II for the NES expands the athletics formula with a wider range of events beyond running and jumping. Alongside track and field disciplines, the roster includes contests such as swimming, archery, fencing, arm wrestling and other one-on-one and precision events, each with its own control scheme. Some rely on the familiar rapid button-tapping to build power and speed, while others focus on timing, aiming or reacting to an opponent's moves. Events are grouped so you work through them in sequence, meeting qualifying standards to continue. Between events, brief screens present the competition and results. The variety means you need to learn several different techniques rather than a single mashing rhythm, and multiple players can take turns to compare scores across events.
