Crimson Skies on the original Xbox is an arcade air combat game set in an alternate version of 1930s America, where the nation has fractured and air pirates and militias fight for control of the skies. You fly propeller aircraft through open mission areas, taking on dogfights, escort and bombing objectives, and shooting down zeppelins and ground targets with machine guns, rockets and other ordnance. Flight handling is deliberately forgiving rather than simulation-focused, with stunts such as barrel rolls and tight turns readily available, and there are moments of flying between buildings and through structures. You can switch between different aircraft with varying speed, armour and weapon loadouts as the campaign progresses. The presentation leans on pulp-adventure serial storytelling, with voiced cutscenes and radio banter between characters, and multiplayer dogfighting modes are also included.
