NHL 2005 on the original Xbox is EA Sports' licensed hockey game, played with real NHL teams, players and arenas. On the ice you handle passing, dekes, checking and shooting while managing lines, and switch to the goaltender when shots come from close range. Difficulty, period length and penalty settings can be tuned to favour either a careful simulation or a faster, more open style of play. Along with exhibition matches you can play out a regular season with standings and statistics, work through the playoffs toward the Stanley Cup, and make trades or adjust line combinations. Television-style presentation includes commentary, crowd reactions and a licensed soundtrack. Local multiplayer supports competitive and cooperative play using the Xbox's controller ports.
