Operation Flashpoint: Elite brings the PC military simulation to the original Xbox. Set during a Cold War conflict on a group of islands, it puts you in the role of ordinary soldiers rather than a lone hero, and it emphasizes realism over arcade shooting. Engagements often begin at long range, bullets do serious damage, and dying usually means restarting a mission rather than shrugging off hits. You fight on foot as infantry but also drive and pilot a range of vehicles, including jeeps, trucks, tanks and helicopters, sometimes as a crew member or passenger. Missions vary from small patrols to large battles with squads of AI soldiers fighting on both sides. Alongside the campaign material, the release includes standalone missions and multiplayer support through the console's online service.
