Ultima Exodus is a console conversion of the third Ultima role-playing game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. You create and lead a party of adventurers through the land of Sosaria, exploring an overworld map, entering towns to buy equipment and gather information, and descending into dungeons drawn in a first-person view. Combat shifts to a separate tactical screen where each party member acts in turn, using weapons, spells and items against groups of enemies. Characters belong to different classes and races, learning magic or specialising in fighting, and progress through training and treasure found in the world. The central goal is to reach and defeat Exodus, which requires piecing together clues scattered across the world. Progress is saved to battery-backed memory, and the game expects note-taking and careful exploration.
