Urban Champion is a one-on-one fighting game for the NES set on a city street. Two brawlers face off in a side-view alley, trading light and heavy punches aimed high or low, with blocks and backward steps used to avoid taking hits. Landing enough blows pushes your opponent back along the street, and the round is won by driving him far enough to knock him down an open manhole. Complications come from the environment: flowerpots drop from windows above, and a police car occasionally appears, forcing both fighters to pause and act innocent. A stamina meter limits how long you can keep swinging. The game supports a two-player mode as well as matches against the computer, with simple controls and short, repeating bouts.
