Whomp 'Em is an NES action platformer starring a Native American hero named Soaring Eagle. Structurally it follows the pattern popularised by run-and-gun platformers of the era: you pick from a set of stages in whatever order you like, fight through each one and face a boss at the end, earning a new weapon or ability that carries over into the levels still to come. Your starting armament is a spear, with additional tools added as you defeat bosses, and finding the right weapon for a given enemy is part of the challenge. Stages are built around jumping, hazards and enemy patterns, with items hidden in the environment. The visual style draws on Native American imagery for its settings and enemies, and the game runs on a password system.
