Cool Spot is a side-scrolling platformer for the Game Boy starring the red mascot spot used in 7 Up advertising. You control Spot as he runs, jumps and climbs through levels themed around beaches, piers, toy-strewn rooms and other everyday settings scaled up to make the small character feel tiny. Spot attacks by firing bubble-like shots at insects and other small enemies, and the main goal in each stage is to collect enough scattered spots to free a caged companion and finish the level. Platforming involves careful jumps between hazards, water sections and moving objects, with a timer and limited health adding pressure. The Game Boy version presents the action in monochrome with detailed sprite work and a bouncy soundtrack.
