Final Fantasy Adventure is an action role-playing game for the Game Boy, played from an overhead view with real-time combat rather than turn-based battles. You control a young fighter who escapes captivity and travels a connected world of towns, forests, caves and towers, joined at times by companions who fight alongside you. Combat uses a swing of your equipped weapon and a power gauge that fills for stronger strikes, and you switch between weapon types such as swords, axes, sickles and chains to cut brush, chop trees and grapple across gaps. Magic and items round out your options, while defeated enemies yield experience that lets you raise chosen stats on level-up. The story concerns the Mana Tree and the forces trying to seize its power.
