The Sega CD version of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers uses the add-on's disc storage to fold video footage from the television series into a licensed action game. Between playable sections you see clips and story sequences drawn from the show, framing the missions as episodes. Play itself is side-scrolling action: you control the Rangers, work through stages populated by foot soldiers, and face a monster at the end of each one. Attacks are straightforward punches, kicks and jumps rather than a deep combo system, and the game leans on the licence and its presentation as much as on its mechanics. The CD format also allows recorded music and voice clips. It is aimed squarely at viewers of the series who want to play through familiar confrontations.
