The Sega CD version of Mortal Kombat is a port of the arcade fighting game that takes advantage of the CD format for its audio, offering a recorded soundtrack in place of the cartridge versions' synthesized music. Gameplay follows the arcade original: one-on-one matches over best-of-three rounds, digitized fighters, high and low attacks, blocking, throws and special moves entered with directional motions, plus finishing moves performed on a dazed opponent. You climb a ladder of opponents in single player or fight another person head-to-head. Backgrounds and stage hazards from the arcade are reproduced, and the game includes the blood and fatality content in unaltered form. Loading pauses come with the CD medium.
