A Sega Saturn entry in the Shinobi series, released in Europe as Shinobi X. It uses digitised live-action photography for the character sprites and backgrounds, giving the side-scrolling action a photographic look. You play a ninja fighting through stages with sword combat at close range and thrown shuriken at a distance, supported by jumps, crouching attacks and limited-use ninja magic. Stages progress through outdoor and interior environments and close with boss encounters. Cutscenes between missions carry the story of a ninja clan conflict. The core play stays close to the series template of learning enemy placement and timing your attacks and movement, with health and item pickups collected along the way.
