Ace Combat 2 is an arcade jet combat game for the original PlayStation. You fly as a mercenary pilot through a campaign of individual missions, each with objectives such as destroying enemy squadrons, bombing ground installations, defending allies or intercepting bombers. Briefings set up each sortie, and you choose an aircraft and weapon loadout before taking off. Handling is deliberately accessible rather than simulation-focused, with simple throttle and turning controls, a machine gun and a limited stock of missiles. Completing missions earns money for buying new aircraft, and performance can open up alternate missions rather than a single fixed path. Enemy aces appear as tougher opponents during certain sorties. Targets, allies and threats are tracked on a radar display and through in-cockpit and chase camera views.
